Unknown Loan In Credit Report

A loan appears in the credit report that the consumer never took or is unaware of.

Credit Report

Required documents

  • Recent credit report showing the unknown loan
  • PAN, Aadhaar and identity proofs
  • Police FIR if fraud is suspected
  • Communication with the lender, if available

Contact order

  1. Credit Bureau Fraud / Dispute Desk
  2. Lender Customer Support
  3. Grievance Officer / Nodal Officer
  4. Police / Cyber Crime Cell / Regulator

Timeline

  • Bureau acknowledgement: 1–3 days
  • Fraud investigation: 7–30 days
  • Resolution and deletion: 30–60 days depending on complexity

Escalation path

  • File a dispute with the bureau immediately
  • Lodge an FIR if the loan is clearly fraudulent
  • Escalate to lender’s grievance and nodal officer if the loan is linked to your PAN or Aadhaar
  • Report to the banking ombudsman or RBI if no action in 30 days
